T Mobile to carry first Google Android phone, HTC “Dream”

Friday, August 15th, 2008

T Mobile will be the first carrier of Googles much hyped Android mobile platform on September 17. The phone to debut Android will be HTCs “Dream” (name has not been officially announced). The “Dream features a full touch screen, just like the iPhone, but that’s not all. The screen slides away just like T Mobile’s famous “Sidekick” to reveal a full, 5-row QWERTY keyboard.

The phone will also have

  • a 3 x 5 inch screen
  • 3G connectivity
  • and a 3 megapixel camera

T Mobile also seems to be going with a strange pricing strategy – $150 in the first week, then increasing to $250 and $400 each week after that.

Here’s a YouTube video thought to be of the HTC “Dream”:

Step aside iPhone, there’s a new player in town.

Samsung debuts E200 Eco phone, made of corn

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

When it comes to looks, the E200 is nothing special. In fact, it looks much like a Nokia phone from 5 years ago. But Samsung is producing this phone not to beat a world record in specs, but to continue the eco-crusade encompassing the last decade. The E200 is special because the shell is made out of ‘bioplastic,’ also known as corn. The phone boasts has a 1.3 megapixel camera and MP3 player functionality.

What do you think – kickass iPhone or (semi) biodegradable E200? At least the choice is clear for hitmen – they dispose of so many phones anyway, why not save the environment at the same time!

Solar powered iPhone 3G charging case

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Although the iPhone 3G can provide up to 5 hours of talk time on a single charge, that’s really not much of a feat. Most (okay, a few) geeks get outside with their iPhones anyways, so why not charge it during everyday use? The solar-powered iPhone case calms your battery woes with (you guessed it) – a solar panel! The case comes with a small 1500 mAh battery, which can be charged to a usable amount in 3 hours. A full charge will take 10 hours.

The case also comes with a mini USB adapter to charge via your laptop – in case you happen to be in a dimly-lit place. The case will be available in mid August, and will retail in both black and white versions for $54. Could be a worthy investment.

DIY Batman Tumbler

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Bob Dullam over at Dullam-Causey has built an amazingly accurate replica of the Batmobile featured in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Apparently all the only specs Bob had to build this thing from were photos and clips from the movies. Bob says when the Tumbler is complete, it will have cost him anywhere from $50,000 to $70,000. Complete with 44-inch knobby tires, this thing is the real deal (one of only 6 Tumblers in the world, and the only home brew one) – and the best part is it’s actually drivable!

Bobs got plans to build a Batpod, and he’s already got a Batsuit! Keep at it Bob, you’re the most ambitious DIYer out there!

Eat Fries at your computer with the keyboard napkin

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Like eating chips, cookies, french fries, and the likes at your computer? Tired of food fingerprints on your brand new laptop? The keyboard napkin is for you! Simply a napkin that fits over your keyboard with the keys printed on, it is both simple and functional. Once you’re done eating, simply peel it off and throw it away! I myself eat a lot at my computer, but I can’t see this concept becoming a reality. Unless of course these things will be made out of recycled materials.

Maybe a possibility for eating on airlines? What are your thoughts?

Regator, social feed aggregator, opens to the public

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Regator, a social feed aggregator (which has been in development for almost a year) has just launched to the public today. Regator’s goal is to combine a digg-esque frontpage of popular blog posts, with a classic feed aggregator. If you know what you’re looking for, you can refine the type of content you want by navigating the folder hierarchy of blogs on the left hand side.

If you like a post you can favorite the blog or save individual posts. My favorite feature may be discreet, but the problem it solves is something that has irked me for a while on Google reader. Regator allows you to create a playlist of podcasts, and listen to them while you navigate elsewhere. This is a first appearance in the world of feed aggregators.

Regator is a more than solid aggregator and I plan to use it as my default reader from now on. If you haven’t signed up already, head over there right now! (signup takes about 10 seconds) And besides, you can’t resist Regator’s cleverly branded mascot!

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

A reader over at Kotaku installed this in a government office. The display consists of twenty-seven 67 inch monitors – a whopping 12600 x 31500 resolution. That accounts for a 40 by 15 foot display.
